The School Day

School starts at 9.00am and ends at 3.30pm (3.15pm for Nursery). We accept and supervise children from 8.45am onwards when teachers are in their classrooms to receive the children. Please remember that the school hosts the St Kentigern's Mass from 8.20am every Thursday, and parents and children are of course invited to come along. It is important that children do not arrive in school before 8.45am as they have to remain in the playground unsupervised. Alternatively, if a parent needs to leave their child early, we offer a breakfast club every morning from 8.00 am - 8.45am. Punctuality is very important and children who arrive after 9.00am disrupt the smooth start to the day and miss important learning opportunities. Children who arrive after 9.30am are given an unauthorised mark in the register. Lunchtime break is from 12:00 - 1.15pm for infants and 12.15-1.30pm for juniors.

Many children now arrive at school by car and the heavy traffic on Bethnall Drive raises important safety issues, particularly at the end of the school day. Parents should realise that the zig-zag lines running the full length of the school frontage on Bethnall Drive make it an offence to park there at any time the school is open. This parking ban is for the safety of children who have to cross Bethnall Drive, and would be seriously at risk if they had to do so through a line of parked cars.

The two car parks at either end of the school building are reserved for staff cars and delivery vehicles. Parents are reminded that the gates to the car parks are 'No Entry' except for vehicles in those two categories.

At the end of the school day, children in the Early Years and Infant departments are collected directly from the individual classrooms, and Junior children are supervised by the class teacher to the school gate to meet whoever needs to take them home. If for any reason parents cannot get to school on time to meet their children, they must contact the school so that emergency measures can be taken.
